Asif Mahmud Joins NCP, Appointed Spokesperson; Will Not Contest Polls

Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuyain, a former adviser to the interim government, has formally joined the National Citizen Party (NCP). He will not contest the 13th parliamentary election, instead taking on the role of the party’s spokesperson and head of its election management committee.

The announcement was made by NCP convener Nahid Islam at a press conference held Monday evening at the party’s temporary central office in Banglamotor, Dhaka. Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuyain was present at the event, seated beside Nahid Islam.

Nahid Islam said the decision followed an urgent online meeting of the party’s political council earlier in the day, after which Asif Mahmud was appointed spokesperson.

He added that the NCP has fully launched its election campaign. While Asif Mahmud will not seek a parliamentary seat, he will focus on coordinating election efforts and working to ensure the victory of NCP-nominated candidates as head of the party’s election management committee.
