Jamaat, NCP and LDP form electoral alliance

Jamaat-e-Islami, the National Citizen Party (NCP) and eight other political parties have reached an electoral understanding ahead of the 13th Jatiya Sangsad elections.

The alliance has been further strengthened with the inclusion of the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), led by Colonel (retd) Oli Ahmed.

Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Shafiqur Rahman announced the development at an emergency press conference held at the National Press Club in Dhaka on Sunday afternoon, 28 December.

He said the original eight-party alliance has now been expanded with the addition of the NCP and the LDP. Shafiqur Rahman also stated that seat-sharing arrangements have already been finalised through mutual negotiations.

While noting that several other parties have shown interest in joining the alliance, he said it would not be possible to accommodate them at this stage.
