Surcharge Introduced at All Land Ports from 1 January

Service charges at all land ports across the country have been increased by five per cent. Taxes, tolls, and fees for each service have also been raised at the same rate.

According to a notification issued by the Bangladesh Land Port Authority, the revised charges will take effect from 1 January.

Fees at Benapole land port are slightly higher than those at other land ports. As a result, a separate notification has been issued specifically for Benapole.

At Benapole land port, charges apply to 27 different services. For passengers, the fee for 2024 was Tk 49.79, which has now been increased to Tk 52.27. Imported buses, trucks, and lorries entering through Benapole will now be charged Tk 184.70, up from Tk 175.90.

The fee for motor cars, jeeps, pickups, and three-wheelers has been set at Tk 110.82, while motorcycles and bicycles will now be charged Tk 36.95.

At Benapole, the fee for using the weighing machine will be Tk 88.65 for trucks and lorries, while document processing will cost Tk 195.07. Vehicles staying in the yard overnight will incur a charge of Tk 111.49. Warehouse storage fees for goods have also been increased based on the duration of storage. Overall, charges for all services at the port have risen.

At land ports other than Benapole, service charges have likewise been increased by five per cent. For passengers, the fee has risen from Tk 49.79 in 2024 to Tk 52.27 from the new year.

For imported buses, trucks, and lorries at these ports, the new fee is Tk 159.22, up from Tk 151.64. Motor cars and jeeps will be charged Tk 95.52, while motorcycles, scooters, baby taxis, and three-wheelers will now cost Tk 47.83.

Fees for importing various types of goods have also been revised upward, depending on the category of the product.

A Bangladesh Land Port Authority official told Prothom Alo that, as in previous years, service charges have been increased this time as well. The revised fees, which are the primary source of revenue for land ports, will come into effect from 1 January.
