Fire at gas lighter factory in Keraniganj leaves 5 dead

Five bodies have been recovered after a fire broke out at a gas lighter factory in the Kadamtali area of Keraniganj, Dhaka. Authorities fear the death toll could rise further, according to the Fire Service.

Fire Service media cell inspector Md Anwarul Islam confirmed the recovery of the five bodies at around 4:00 pm on Saturday.

The blaze erupted at approximately 1:11 pm at the factory, located beside Al Baraka Hospital at Kadamtali Chourasta. Firefighters brought the fire under control at around 2:30 pm after about one and a half hours of effort.

“So far, five bodies have been recovered, but it is not yet clear whether they are male or female. Efforts are underway to identify the victims. The death toll may increase, and operations are still ongoing,” said Anwarul Islam.

According to the Fire Service, three firefighting units reached the scene within five minutes of receiving the alert. Later, four additional units joined, and the fire was eventually brought under control after sustained efforts.
