Land to Be Handed Over to BSF Within 45 Days for Border Fencing: Suvendu Adhikari

West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari on Monday announced that the state government has initiated the process of transferring land to the Border Security Force (BSF) for fencing the India-Bangladesh border.

The newly elected chief minister said the land would be handed over to the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) within the next 45 days as part of efforts to curb illegal infiltration along the border.

Speaking to reporters after the first Cabinet meeting of the newly formed BJP government at Nabanna in Howrah, Adhikari said the decision was one of six major resolutions adopted during the meeting.

“In our very first Cabinet meeting today, we decided to transfer the required land to the BSF. The process begins today, and the land will be handed over to the Ministry of Home Affairs within 45 days. Once completed, the BSF will finish the border fencing work, and the issue of illegal infiltration will be addressed within a short time,” Adhikari said.

The chief minister said the inaugural Cabinet meeting focused on governance priorities and development plans under the BJP’s “double-engine government.”

“The first Cabinet meeting with all concerned officials was successful. We assure the people of Bengal that the double-engine government will carry out all development-related projects efficiently. Six important decisions were taken during today’s meeting,” he said.

Adhikari also announced that several central government welfare schemes, including Ayushman Bharat and Jan Arogya Yojana, would now be implemented in West Bengal.

“The Ayushman Bharat scheme will be launched in Bengal. The Jan Arogya Yojana and other schemes introduced by the Prime Minister will also be implemented in the state,” he stated.

Addressing political violence in the state, Adhikari said the government was prepared to investigate cases related to the deaths of party workers during political movements if the families sought legal action.

“Regarding the 321 individuals who lost their lives during our political struggle, if their families wish, the government will initiate investigations into those cases,” he added.

The chief minister also thanked voters, the Election Commission, police personnel, Central forces, and political parties for ensuring peaceful Assembly elections.

In a post on X, Adhikari said he had chaired a high-level administrative review meeting with senior officials, including the Chief Secretary, Home Secretary, Director General of Police, and the Kolkata Police Commissioner, to assess the law-and-order situation in the state.

The BJP formed the government in West Bengal after winning 206 seats in the 294-member Assembly, bringing an end to the Trinamool Congress’ 15-year rule in the state.
