India to Resume Tourist Visas for Bangladeshis from June 28

India will resume issuing tourist visas to Bangladeshi citizens from June 28, Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Dinesh Trivedi announced on Thursday.

Speaking at a press conference at the Indian Visa Application Centre (IVAC) in Dhaka, Trivedi said the move is part of efforts to restore normal bilateral relations between the two neighboring countries.

“I am happy to announce that we are resuming our normal visa operations. Applications for tourist visas can be submitted from June 28, 2026. We will continue to facilitate medical visas in urgent cases on humanitarian grounds,” he said.

Earlier in the day, at around 12:30 p.m., Trivedi officially assumed his duties in Dhaka by presenting his credentials to Bangladesh President Mohammed Shahabuddin.

“I met the Hon’ble President of Bangladesh and presented my credentials today. From there, I came directly to the Indian Visa Application Centre to inspect its operations. It is encouraging to see such a large number of applicants visiting the centre,” he added.

The High Commissioner said tourist visa services will resume simultaneously at all Indian visa centres across Bangladesh. Initially, visas will be issued through centres located in Dhaka, Rajshahi, Chattogram, Sylhet, and Khulna, with plans to gradually expand operations in other cities.

Trivedi noted that the issue of visas was raised during his recent journey to Bangladesh through Benapole. Recognizing the importance of visa services for citizens of both countries, India decided to restore regular tourist visa processing.

“We hope this step will further strengthen people-to-people ties between our two sovereign nations,” the High Commissioner said.
