Spain vs France Set to Become the Most Expensive Match in Football History, with Combined Squad Value Exceeding USD 3 Billion

Football: Spain and France will go head-to-head in a blockbuster FIFA World Cup semi-final at 1:00 a.m. Bangladesh time tonight, in what is being described as the most expensive match in football history.

According to Spanish sports daily AS, the combined market value of the two squads exceeds USD 3 billion (more than Tk 370 billion), making it the highest-valued World Cup semi-final ever recorded. No previous semi-final in the tournament's history has featured teams with such extraordinary financial worth.

Despite the enormous combined valuation, France holds a clear advantage in overall squad value. The French team is estimated to be worth around USD 1.78 billion, while Spain's squad is valued at approximately USD 1.43 billion—a difference of nearly USD 350 million.

Star Power on Both Sides

The showdown also features some of the world's most valuable footballers.

Spain's teenage sensation Lamine Yamal tops the global market value rankings at an estimated USD 234 million. France captain Kylian Mbappé follows closely with a valuation of around USD 210 million.

France's Michael Olise and Spain midfielder Pedri are each valued at approximately USD 175 million, underscoring the exceptional talent on display.

Beyond those four stars, both squads boast seven players valued at USD 117 million or more. In total, 22 players in the two teams have market values exceeding USD 58 million. France accounts for 15 of those players, while Spain has seven, highlighting the greater depth of high-value talent within the French squad.

Position-by-Position Comparison

Spain enjoys the advantage between the posts. The combined market value of its three goalkeepers is estimated at USD 114 million, compared with approximately USD 67 million for France's goalkeeping unit.

France, however, dominates in defence. The French back line carries a combined valuation of roughly USD 473 million, significantly higher than Spain's defensive unit, which is worth about USD 337 million.

Spain takes the lead in midfield, where its players have a combined market value of approximately USD 491 million, compared with USD 365 million for France.

The most striking difference comes in attack. Although Lamine Yamal is the world's most valuable player, France's collection of forwards and wingers has a combined market value of around USD 877 million, comfortably surpassing Spain's attacking group, which is valued at roughly USD 488 million.

Record-Breaking Financial Value

France's superior strength in attacking talent is the primary reason its overall squad valuation exceeds Spain's. With more than USD 3 billion worth of talent set to take the field, tonight's World Cup semi-final is expected to become the most valuable match in football history, combining elite quality, global star power, and unprecedented financial value in a single contest.
