Bangladesh is advancing its plans to acquire Chinese-made J-10CE fighter jets for its Air Force, according to Prime Minister’s Information and Broadcasting Adviser Zahed Ur Rahman. He announced this during a press briefing at the Secretariat on Tuesday.

The government is currently working on procuring fourth-generation MRCA fighter jets, attack helicopters, VIP helicopters, and UAV systems as part of modernizing the Bangladesh Air Force. If funding is approved in this fiscal year’s budget, these procurements will proceed this year; otherwise, they will be postponed to the next budget cycle.

A draft agreement prepared by the relevant committee for negotiation on the purchase of the J-10CE jets and attack helicopters has been sent for approval to the Armed Forces Division and other ministries.

Regarding the J-10CE’s capabilities, the adviser highlighted its recent combat performance, noting that during a conflict between India and Pakistan, a Chinese J-10 successfully downed an Indian Rafale fighter jet. This real-world experience demonstrates the J-10CE’s effectiveness against advanced 4.5-generation fighters like the Rafale.

Zahed Ur Rahman also pointed out that Chinese fighter jets are significantly more affordable compared to similar-quality aircraft such as Rafales or European models like the Eurofighter Typhoon. He expressed hope that the government would take all necessary steps to strengthen national defense.

The press briefing was also attended by Information and Broadcasting Minister Andaleeve Rahman Partho, State Minister for Information Yaser Khan Chowdhury, Information Secretary Mahbuba Farzana, and Chief Information Officer of the Press Information Department Syed Abdal Ahmed.
