Bangladesh Vs Hong Kong

5 reasons for Bangladesh's loss in the 7-goal match: Why did the red-green team lose against Hong Kong?

After losing 4-3 to Hong Kong with a last-minute goal, disappointment reigns in the Bangladesh camp. Why did they have to lose despite showing such excellent skills - this question was swirling in the minds of the players, coaches and 22,000 spectators. Why this loss? Analyzing the performance and tactical mistakes on the field, five main reasons for the loss are highlighted:

1. Weakness in defense and wrong selection of the playing XI

The main reason for Bangladesh's loss was the deplorable state of the defense. The fitness of the two main players in the central defense was in question:

Tarik Kazi: He was half fit.

Tapu Barman (Senior): He was completely unfit.

Coach Javier Cabrera kept the inexperienced Shakil Ahad Tapu in the playing XI alongside Tarik despite knowing the poor condition in the two main positions of the defense. Shakil Ahad could not handle the pressure of a big match yet.

The coach could have taken Yasin Arafat to secure the defense. But the coach often says that Yasin cannot play 'buildup'. When two important defenders are injured against a powerful opponent, Hong Kong, it was more important to strengthen the defense than the buildup. At one stage of the match, the half-fit Tariq had to be taken off. At the end, the unfit Tapu Barman had to be brought on - which clearly shows how shaky Bangladesh's defense was in the Hong Kong match.

2. Rakib's incorrect use of the wing position

Most goals in football come from crosses from the wing. Rakib Hossain can do this job brilliantly from the right wing. But in the Hong Kong match, he was moved from the striker position to the wing. This made the opponent easily block his way to cross.

Although Bangladesh currently has no 'number nine', the midfielders scored goals in this match. But the wing play was not effective. If Rakib had been played as a traditional winger, he would have been more effective in the striker position; but the coach did not take this strategy.

3. Loss of concentration and excessive celebration by the coach after the third goal

In the ninth minute of added time, Bangladesh dramatically equalized 3-3. After this goal, the entire team practically lost concentration.

The way Coach Kabrera celebrated that goal was unbelievable. It was good to have scored a goal, but the game was still to come. The coach should forget that. There was no instruction on what to do in the last one or two minutes. That is why Bangladesh lost the match by conceding a goal a few seconds before the final whistle.

4. Keeping Shamit Som on the bench

This match was very important in the fight to survive in the final round of the Asian Cup. But the coach did not field the best team! His selection of the eleven was questionable.

Shamit Som came from Canada to play. The way he played and scored goals after being substituted, he could have been kept in the XI.

The coach had already said that he would not keep Shamit in the starting eleven—which now seems to have been his wrong decision.

Shamit is ahead of the other footballers in Bangladesh by any measure. There is no point in keeping him on the bench.

On the other hand, the young left-back Zayan Ahmed played well in the U-23 team, but the fact that he was not included in the XI raises questions. Zayan has shown that he could have been more effective in Saad's place after being substituted. Saad was being forced to play; the ball came out through his legs, which was a serious mistake in defense. The national team has to pay the price for such a mistake, which Hong Kong showed.

5. Ineffectiveness of two Sohel Rana in the midfield

The coach played two Sohel Rana in the midfield. But the effectiveness of neither of these two was seen.

Sohel Rana (Senior) has been playing for many years, but apart from taking a few shots on goal, he has made almost no significant contribution.

Sohel Rana (Junior) does not have much match experience and could not handle the pressure of the Hong Kong match.

This weakness in the midfield suggests that the coach's selection of the XI for the Hong Kong match was not correct. Overall, Bangladesh suffered this defeat as a result of weak defense, incorrect use of the wings and a loss of concentration at crucial moments of the match.
