A fire broke out in the cargo village (goods storage area) of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka at around 2:30 pm today, Saturday. In view of the fire, all types of flights have been temporarily suspended at this major airport of the country.

At around 3:45 pm, the spokesperson of the airport's executive director, Md. Masudul Hasan Masud, confirmed this information.

It is learned that the part of the cargo village where the fire broke out is where imported goods are stored. This cargo village is located between the airport post office and the hangar, and its import cargo complex building is located next to Gate No. 8 (hangar gate) of the airport. The fire broke out on the north side of the complex, near Gate No. 3, and it has now spread to the entire building.

A lot of smoke is seen coming out of the cargo village building. 30 units of the fire service are working to put out the fire, and 6 more units are on their way to the scene.

The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said that Bangladesh Civil Aviation, Fire Service, Bangladesh Army, two fire units of Bangladesh Air Force and Bangladesh Navy have joined the fire control. In addition, two platoons of BGB have also been deployed to help control the fire.

Meanwhile, an eager crowd was seen gathering outside the Cargo Village. The Air Force is asking them to move away through mikes.

Md. Russell Mollah, a driver of Voyager Aviation, who was involved in loading and unloading cargo from the aircraft, said that his car was near gate number 8 when the fire broke out and the people inside were quickly evacuated.
