Tarique Rahman Applies for Travel Pass to Return Home

Tarique Rahman Applies for Travel Pass to Return Home BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman has applied for a travel pass to return to Bangladesh on 25 December , sources have confirmed. The application was submitted to the Bangladesh High Commission in London , according to a source in the United Kingdom, who confirmed the matter to Prothom Alo on Thursday evening. Living in exile in London for political reasons, Tarique Rahman has been without a valid Bangladeshi passport after it expired. Although he had the opportunity to renew his passport following the fall of the Awami League government during last year’s uprising, he did not do so. Under the current circumstances, he will therefore return to Bangladesh using a one-time travel pass , which allows a single entry into the country for Bangladeshi citizens without valid passports. Mohammadpur Double Murder: Maid Detained While Fleeing After Theft, Later Confesses to Killing Mother and Daughter

A domestic worker, Ayesha Akter, 20, allegedly killed her employer Laila Afroz, 48, and Laila’s daughter Nafisa Nawal Binte Aziz, 15, after being caught attempting to flee with stolen gold ornaments and other valuables from their home in Dhaka’s Mohammadpur, police said.

According to investigators, a confrontation broke out when Laila and her daughter stopped Ayesha as she tried to escape with the stolen items. Ayesha then attacked both with a knife, fatally stabbing them. Police say she admitted to the killings during preliminary questioning.

Sub-Inspector Sahidul Islam, the investigation officer of Mohammadpur Police Station, confirmed the developments on Wednesday afternoon.

Earlier that morning, police arrested Ayesha and her husband Jamal Sikdar, 25, from Koyarchar in Nalchity upazila of Jhalakathi. Jamal is from the same locality, while Ayesha is originally from Salimganj in Narsingdi.

Police say that after the murders, the couple fled to Jamal’s family home in Koyarchar. Ayesha was detained following a tip-off and with the help of digital surveillance tools. Both she and her husband will face further interrogation.

Quoting Jamal, police said Ayesha claimed she did not intend to kill anyone. When Laila grabbed her from behind as she tried to run off with the gold ornaments, she panicked and attacked both mother and daughter.

A murder case was filed on Monday night at Mohammadpur Police Station by AJM Azizul Islam, Laila’s husband and Nafisa’s father. According to the case statement, the killings occurred between 7:51 a.m. and 9:35 a.m. that day.

Investigators say Ayesha had been working in the household for only four days and regularly arrived wearing a burqa or keeping her face covered. CCTV footage shows she entered the building in a burqa on the day of the incident and left wearing Nafisa’s school uniform.
