Qatar Offers Air Ambulance for Khaleda Zia’s Treatment

Qatar has offered to provide an air ambulance to support the medical treatment of BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia, diplomatic sources confirmed on Thursday morning.

The offer follows a formal request made on 29 November by BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, who wrote to Qatar’s ambassador to Bangladesh, Seraya Ali Al-Qahtani, seeking assistance in arranging an air ambulance.

Khaleda Zia was admitted to Evercare Hospital on the night of 23 November after suffering breathing difficulties. Doctors found a lung infection, and her condition worsened early Sunday, leading to her transfer from the Step-Down Unit (SDU) to the Coronary Care Unit (CCU).

Throughout Thursday morning, party leaders and activists gathered outside Evercare Hospital to enquire about her health, with a large crowd seen around 10:30 am.

To support her ongoing treatment, British specialist Dr. Richard Beale arrived in Dhaka on Wednesday afternoon. A four-member medical team from China also reached Dhaka later that night, arriving shortly after 9:00 pm and heading directly to the hospital.

Khaleda Zia is currently being treated by a combined medical board that includes Bangladeshi experts, physicians from Johns Hopkins Hospital in the United States, and specialists from The London Clinic. An advance team of five Chinese doctors had also arrived earlier on 1 December to assist with her care.
