Narendra Modi Congratulates Tarique Rahman, Extends Invitation to Visit India

India’s Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, has congratulated Bangladesh’s newly elected Prime Minister, Tarique Rahman, and invited him to visit India at his earliest convenience.

The letter was handed over to Tarique Rahman by Om Birla, Speaker of the Lok Sabha, who attended the oath-taking ceremony of Bangladesh’s new government on Tuesday afternoon.

In his message, Modi conveyed his “warmest congratulations” to Tarique Rahman on the victory of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party in the recently concluded parliamentary elections and on his appointment as Prime Minister. He wished him success in undertaking the responsibilities of the high office.

Modi described the electoral victory as a reflection of the trust and confidence the people of Bangladesh have placed in Tarique Rahman’s leadership and their mandate for his vision to advance the country along the path of peace, stability, and prosperity.

Highlighting the close ties between the two neighbours, Modi noted that India and Bangladesh share a deep-rooted friendship grounded in common history, cultural connections, and shared aspirations for peace and development. He emphasized that the alignment of their developmental priorities would guide future cooperation.

The Indian Prime Minister also expressed his eagerness to work closely with his Bangladeshi counterpart to strengthen multifaceted bilateral relations, enhance regional cooperation, and promote collaboration in areas such as connectivity, trade, technology, education, skill development, energy, healthcare, and cultural and people-to-people exchanges. He said that as two fast-growing economies, India and Bangladesh can support each other’s sustainable growth, security, and mutual prosperity.

Modi further invited Tarique Rahman, along with Dr. Zubaida Rahman and his daughter Zaima, to visit India at a mutually convenient time, assuring them of a warm welcome.

Later in the evening, Om Birla shared details of his courtesy meeting with Tarique Rahman on the platform X. He stated that he had handed over a personal letter from Prime Minister Modi, conveying best wishes and the invitation to visit India.

Birla added that on behalf of the people of India, he extended heartfelt congratulations and reaffirmed India’s commitment to deepening the longstanding partnership between the two neighbouring nations.
