ACC Seeks to Show Masud Uddin Arrested in Graft Case

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has petitioned the court to show retired Lieutenant General Masud Uddin Chowdhury—former lawmaker from Feni-3 and a controversial figure for his role during the 1/11 period—as arrested in a corruption case.

The case involves the alleged embezzlement of Tk 119 crore through the recruitment of workers for overseas employment in Malaysia. The application was submitted on Wednesday by ACC Assistant Director and investigation officer Md Abul Kalam Azad.

Dhaka Senior Special Judge’s Court acting judge Moinuddin Chowdhury has scheduled a hearing on April 9, where the accused is expected to be present. The development was confirmed by ACC prosecutor Delwar Jahan Rumi.

Earlier, on Tuesday, Masud Uddin Chowdhury was shown arrested in a separate human trafficking case filed with Paltan Police Station. The court granted a five-day remand following a police request.

He was detained late Monday night by a team from the Detective Branch (DB) of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police at his residence in Baridhara DOHS.

According to the ACC, beyond the official fees, the accused allegedly collected an additional Tk 119 crore from 7,124 individuals during the process of sending workers to Malaysia. A case has been filed against him under the ACC Act.

The commission also argued that granting bail could hinder the investigation, and therefore requested the court to formally show him arrested in the corruption case to ensure a fair probe.
