Ministry Calls for Restraint on Decorative Lighting and Private Vehicle Use

Amid concerns over a possible energy shortage linked to the ongoing Middle East conflict, the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources has urged citizens to avoid decorative lighting during Ramadan and limit the use of private vehicles, encouraging greater reliance on public transportation instead.

In a statement issued বুধবার, the ministry called on the public to adopt energy-efficient practices and cooperate in conserving electricity and fuel.

The ministry noted that instability in the Middle East has disrupted global fuel supplies, which could temporarily affect Bangladesh’s domestic energy sector. As a result, short-term interruptions in energy supply or temporary adjustments may be necessary, potentially impacting electricity generation and fertiliser production.

To prevent fuel smuggling, relevant authorities—including the administration, police, and Border Guard Bangladesh—have been instructed to take appropriate measures.

An emergency meeting was held বুধবার morning under the leadership of Energy Minister Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku to assess the situation. Officials reported that fuel shipments from potential sources remain uncertain in both quantity and timing.

The ministry said it has already taken all possible steps to reduce the impact of global disruptions and is working to secure energy supplies from all available sources.

The meeting was attended by State Minister Anindya Islam Amit, the secretary of the Energy and Mineral Resources Division, the chairmen of BPCL and PDB, along with other senior officials.

The ministry urged citizens to remain patient and extend full cooperation to help the government successfully manage the temporary energy challenges.
