US and Iran Signal Peace Deal

US and Iran Signal Peace Deal Is Near as Tehran Claims Victory The United States and Iran signaled on Friday that they are close to reaching an agreement to end their conflict, with a senior U.S. administration official saying both sides have agreed on a draft text and that Washington expects an initial deal to be signed within days. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said some details remain under discussion but argued that the tentative agreement demonstrates Iran’s strength following the war. “Iran is the winner of the war with the U.S.,” Araqchi said in an interview on state television. According to sources involved in the negotiations, the proposed memorandum of understanding would reopen the Strait of Hormuz and end the U.S. naval blockade of Iranian ports. Talks on Iran’s nuclear program—the issue cited by U.S. President Donald Trump as the reason for launching military action—would continue after the agreement takes effect. Heatwaves in June

Meteorological Department Forecasts Multiple Heatwaves in June

Ashar, the first month of the monsoon season in the Bengali calendar, begins in mid-June. Typically, monsoon winds enter Bangladesh at the start of the month, bringing significant rainfall across the country. June is usually the second-rainiest month of the year.

However, the latest forecast from the Bangladesh Meteorological Department suggests that rainfall this June may remain below normal.

This prediction contrasts sharply with weather patterns observed in April and May, both of which experienced above-average rainfall.

April, traditionally the hottest month of the year, recorded rainfall levels more than 75 percent higher than normal—an exceptionally rare occurrence. The excessive rainfall caused widespread damage to crops in large areas of the haor region.

The Meteorological Department released its June weather outlook on Monday, indicating that overall rainfall during the month could be lower than average.

Despite the reduced rainfall forecast, meteorologists expect several low-pressure systems to form during June, with at least one potentially intensifying into a monsoon depression.

Bangladesh typically receives an average of 459 millimetres of rainfall in June, making it the second-wettest month of the year after July, which averages 523 millimetres.

According to the forecast, monsoon winds are expected to gradually spread across different parts of the country from the beginning of the month.

Nevertheless, temperatures are likely to remain above normal throughout June. The country may also experience two to three mild to moderate heatwaves during the month.

The report also reviewed weather conditions in May, noting that rainfall was 7 percent above normal nationwide.

Rangpur Division recorded the highest increase, receiving nearly 99 percent more rainfall than average. In contrast, Chattogram, Khulna, and Barishal divisions experienced comparatively lower levels of rainfall.
