SSC 2027 Exam May Shift to March Instead of January

Education Update: SSC 2027 Exam May Shift to March Instead of January

The SSC (Secondary School Certificate) examination of 2027 is likely to be rescheduled from its initially planned date of 7 January to mid-March, as education authorities reconsider the timing.

This change is being considered due to the upcoming holy month of Ramadan, Eid-ul-Fitr celebrations, and feedback from parents. A senior official from the education department confirmed that the possibility of starting the exams in March is under active discussion.

Since Ramadan is expected to begin in the second week of February next year, scheduling the SSC exams after Ramadan and Eid-ul-Fitr in mid-March would be more feasible. However, no final decision has been announced yet.

Earlier, in May, Education Minister ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milan shared tentative dates for both the SSC and HSC (Higher Secondary Certificate) exams. The provisional plan set the SSC exams from 7 January to 6 February 2027, while the HSC exams were scheduled from 6 June to 13 July 2027.

The SSC and HSC exams are the country’s most important public exams, taken annually by hundreds of thousands of students. Traditionally, SSC exams started in early February, followed by HSC exams in early April, but the Covid-19 pandemic disrupted this schedule.

In 2026, the SSC exams began on 21 April, and the HSC exams started in July. To realign the academic calendar, the education department initially aimed to move exam dates earlier. Proposals to hold the 2027 exams in December faced strong opposition, leading to the current plan for January SSC exams and June HSC exams.

Currently, the academic year for primary and secondary education runs from January to December, while higher secondary and tertiary education follows a July to June calendar. Education experts stress the importance of a unified academic calendar across all levels to ensure consistency in exams and results.
