US Overtakes India as Bangladesh’s Second-Largest Trading Partner The United States has overtaken India to become Bangladesh’s second-largest trading partner, driven largely by a sharp increase in imports from the United States. China continues to hold the top position by a wide margin. Bangladesh’s imports from the United States increased by 43 percent in the latest fiscal year, while exports to the US rose by around 4 percent. At the same time, imports from India declined by about 7.5 percent and exports to India fell by roughly 3 percent. According to National Board of Revenue data, Bangladesh’s total trade with the United States reached $12.67 billion in the latest fiscal year, compared with $10.72 billion with India. Bangladeshis advised to book hotels before travelling to Kolkata

Following a fire in Kolkata, India, on August 19, several residential hotels have been temporarily closed by local authorities. This closure may cause accommodation difficulties for Bangladeshis traveling to Kolkata for medical treatment or other reasons.

To prevent such issues, the Bangladesh Deputy High Commission in Kolkata has advised Bangladeshi travelers to secure hotel bookings before their trip. The advisory was issued in a notice on Thursday.

The temporary closure affects hotels and restaurants considered accident-prone, with reopening expected to take over a month after meeting safety and regulatory standards.

Bangladeshi citizens are urged not to travel to Kolkata without confirmed hotel reservations to avoid problems finding suitable accommodation. Travelers should verify the hotel's current status, room availability, and location before traveling.

Additionally, those accompanying patients for medical visits must also ensure their hotel bookings are confirmed. The notice recommends checking room availability, booking validity, proximity to hospitals, and necessary amenities before arrival.
